About

A CFO who speaks founder, not finance.

I spent seventeen years learning how money really moves through a company — in audit, in corporate finance, and inside fast-growing startups. Now I bring that to founder-led businesses two days a week.

Dana Whitfield, fractional CFO

Hi, I'm Dana.

I started my career as an audit manager and spent the next decade and a half in corporate and startup finance — the kind of roles where you learn the difference between a company that looks profitable and one that actually generates cash.

Along the way I kept meeting the same founder: smart, driven, growing fast — and completely in the dark about their own numbers. They had a bookkeeper and an accountant, but no one translating the finances into decisions. No one in the room when it mattered.

That's the gap I fill. I'm a fractional CFO for founder-led companies doing between $2M and $30M in revenue. You get senior finance leadership — cash forecasting, pricing, fundraising prep, board reporting — without the $300K cost of a full-time hire.

How I work

I take on four clients at a time, on purpose. Each one gets real attention: a standing weekly meeting, async access between calls, and models and reporting built and maintained for them — not handed to a junior.

  • CPA and former audit manager
  • 17 years across corporate and startup finance
  • 32 companies served as advisor or fractional CFO
  • Based in Chicago, working with clients nationwide

If that sounds like the kind of partner you've been missing, the best first step is a short conversation.

What I believe

Numbers you'll read

A report nobody opens is worthless. I build finance that founders actually use to make decisions.

Honest over flattering

You'll hear the real picture — including the parts that are uncomfortable — early enough to do something about it.

In the room

I don't hand you a model and disappear. I'm beside you in the board meeting, the raise and the hard calls.
